  German Mining Sword Makers Mark.JPG - GERMAN MINING SWORD - German Bergbau (Mining Service) ceremonial sword, 34 7/8 in. overall length, all brass dove's head with P-guard hilt and brass wire wrapped grip, brass miners’ hammer and mallet emblem is pinned to the obverse langet, slightly curved nickel-plated steel blade engraved on one side with various mining scenes and engraved on the obverse with Gott segne unsern Bergbau (God bless our mining), maker’s mark consists of a set of scales with the interspersed letters “ACS” which stands for the initials of Alexander Coppel above the scale and S for Solingen below, ca. 1930s, ex-Tony Moon collection (Alexander Coppel founded the firm in 1821 in Solingen, Germany making tableware and standard fancy goods until 1871 when sword production started. In 1885 the company started making ceremonial swords. In 1890, Coppel added bicycles and cycle parts.  In 1914 they turned to war production as they did in 1939. In 1945 the plant was in ruins but they started again and ceased production in 1956.)
